Great alegory. With today's announcement about the full bail out, communism here we come. I guess personal responsibility is not part of the vacabulary any more. And here I was hoping that by being responsible and not buying what I could not afford, I might be able to pickup a steal in real estate this winter. It would be so horrible if the market dropped enough where the rest of us could actually afford real estate without government meddling.

re: 24th Assembly Seat-Vote For______

Thank you for coming to the forum! The discussion on issues was a benefit to all! For those looking to find a candidate, we need someone with the ABC's:

1) Academic Credentials
2) Business Experience
3) Conservative Leadership

Thanks also for highlighting the immediate issue: gas prices - if readers would like to see how much they could save they can calculate it at www.themelchertplan.com

While this will bring some immediate relief, I agree that holding down spending is the long term solution.

Thanks for allowing use of your blog to help voters make a more informed choice. While a Journal Sentinel endorsement is not a slam-dunk amongst us conservatives, I do need to point out that this was not an endorsement based on issues (all 4 of the Republicans have very similar views of the issues). The fact is pointed out that the Journal Sentinel and I do not see eye-to-eye, rather I was endorsed because in their opinion I am candidate who best understands my constituents, has the energy to get things done, and has the experience of reforming the Germantown School Board, as well as having business and educational experience. I agree very much that the voters need to have a sense of urgency in this election. Given the reforms that I spearheaded on the Germantown School Board, I am the candidate the has the best and most relevant experience to reform Madison now and bring Madison's values more in line

with those of the 24th district voters. I had the courage to stand up when the Germantown School District acted against the constituents’ values and I will do the same in Madison. This is not the time to gamble on someone you hope will stand up for you when I am the only candidate with a track record for leading positive change in government. Given this, I hope your readers will give me the honor and privilege of serving them in the State Assembly.

Sincerely,

WKCE scores dip in math, language

Sophomores in the Menomonee Falls School District performed above the state average on the 2007 Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination.

The Menomonee Falls School Board last night reviewed the test scores, about a week after they were released by the state Department of Public Instruction.

Kathy Myles, director of teaching, learning and assessment, said the 10th-grade scores are an area of concern.

The number of students who scored in the advanced or proficient categories either remained the same or increased slightly over last year's scores in every area except math and language.

The combined score for math went down 4 percent and the combined language score went down 5 percent.

Dear Community of Menomonee Falls--

I am running for a seat on the School Board because I believe I have the skills and experience it'll take to do a great job for our schools. This is especially important since we are losing two active incumbents on the board who've decided not to seek re-election, including Ted Klumb.

I am the only candidate for school board who has actual experience working with the schools and district. My leadership in the schools has spanned over eleven years. I have been an active PTA leader at all school levels, serving as president three times, most currently at North Junior High. For several years I have been involved extensively in school district planning activities for facilities, strategic goal-setting and curriculum/ learning issues. I was part of the leadership committee that worked to pass the recent successful referendum to renovate the high school and reconfigure the district's schools.

My two sons are high school-aged students now and I feel, while they've experienced a solid education in the Falls, there is room for improvement in our district. Most people connected to its day-to-day workings-- like the administrators and teachers in our schools-- understand and agree with this sentiment.

I believe my having actual experience in our school district matters, especially now, when we face challenges related to the budget, planning and student achievement. My professional background also lends itself to a role on the school board. Currently the Associate Director of the Institute for Wisconsin's Future, a public policy research and advocacy center, I am dedicated to improving state policies that impact families, workers and schools in Wisconsin. My public policy background gives me extensive knowledge of school funding, organization and legislation. This makes me a valuable asset to the School Board.

My goals for the School Board are to:

1) Continue to improve academic excellence for our children by providing a rigorous curriculum and delivering instruction consistently and in a way appropriate for each and every student in the district.

2) Improve the district's communications with students, parents, staff and members of the public and ensure that stakeholders have ample opportunity to provide input on important policy and budget issues -- at a meaningful point in the decision-making

process.

3) Increase the school board's participation in advocacy and legislative efforts affecting schools and continue to encourage parents to be advocates on behalf of their children at all levels of government.

Together with the community, our school district can achieve the gains we've determined necessary. My skills and experience prepare me to play an important role on the school board. Please vote for me on April 1st. Thank you -- Gina Palazzari
