Medallion Not Turned In...2nd Chance Winners Named

By Mike Seavert
Thursday, Jun 26 2008, 05:39 PM

The Kolasinski family pictured at the site of where the medallion was hidden this year. The medallion was hidden on the playground structure in Haker Park.  Mike Kolasinski was the first name drawn in the second-chance prize drawing.

Another medallion quest has come to an end!  The contest officially ended this afternoon.  The medallion was not turned in to the Parks & Recreation Department office by the deadline today (12 Noon).  Three second-chance winners were drawn from the entries received.  The winners are:

1st Place - Mike Kolasinski (wins the Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Resort/Six Flags/Dinner Certificate package)

2nd Place - Heidi Krenz (wins $20 dinner gift certificate)

3rd Place - Ardell Bergin (wins $20 dinner gift certificate)

Congratulations to the second chance winners!  If you were stumped and did not know where this year's medallion was hidden, it was located in Haker Park, on the playground above the lion play structure in a magnetic keybox under the observation deck.

Here are the meanings behind this year's clues.  Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's quest.

CLUE #1  2008 Medallion Quest

Summer’s here – the weather’s warm;
Time for the annual “Quest”.
There’s multiple sur”prizes” for
the scientist who does the best!

The first part of this clue announces the annual Medallion Quest, stating that more than one prize will be awarded to the winter of the 2008 Quest

We’re mixing up a summer cure -
A formula for fun!
Investigate your city parks
To see if you have won!

Using the department’s summer “theme”, this clue tells questers that the medallion is hidden in a Greenfield city park

CLUE #2        2008 Medallion Quest
Analyze this…
4 parts fun + 4 parts sun is your potion-
This equation is sure to put you in motion.

Let the research be your “Guide”.
The result will lead you to the east side.

Adding 4 + 4 equals 8, which results in the number of the park listed in the summer Recreator. Researching the “guide”(page 50), questers will find that #8 refers to directly to Haker Park, on the east side of the City.

CLUE #3  2008 Medallion Quest
A dose of fun to keep you on the run…

“Victory” can be yours with continued exploration.
Ponder this clue but keep it under observation.

Investigate the park with “spring” water and fresh air.
Study your surroundings-you’re almost there.

“Victory” refers to the medal, which is used as the “medallion” for 2008 quest and this clue encourages questers to keep looking.  “Under observation” means that the medallion is under an observation deck on the park’s playground equipment.  “Spring” refers to Cold Spring Road which further suggests Haker Park, which also has an open air shelter(fresh air).

CLUE #4        2008 Medallion Quest
Things are looking up…

If you are at the right park here’s your final solution.
De-magnetize the clues to come to the conclusion.

We’re not “lyin”- the evidence is clear.
You’ve found the prize-the Quest ends here!

“Looking up” suggests that questers look above something, and if you were in the correct park as directed by the previous clues, this last clue will lead you directly to the Victory medallion, hidden inside a magnetized “hidden key” container. At the Haker Park playground, there is a lion head as part of the play structure that is in a prominent, clear spot.  The magnetized keybox with the medallion inside was located above the lions head, under the “observation” deck of the playground structure.
