Hey, I've been censored!

I don't generally write blogs that contain objectionable content, so imagine my surprise last night to find out that one of my blogs had been censored!

I had some time on my hands last night and was experimenting with features on our new blogging tool.  I was using an option where I was able to scroll through and view past blogs.  As I was scrolling down, I noticed a bunch of asterisks in one of my blogs.  It was about the importance of getting an annual mammogram, and my own experience this past spring.  ("Say It Isn't So/ May 16, 2007)

So, of course, I have to mention the word...umm... the word that refers to that part of the female anatomy that rhymes with "vest".

So, in a blog about the early detection of "vest" cancer and my experience of finding a nodule in my left "vest", all references to that part of the female body are gone and replaced with asterisks, probably due to some program that is designed to detect and delete...umm... dirty!?... words

My apologies to any who may have been reading this particular blog (and thanks to all who are reading my past ones - I can see the hits!).

I've already informed the powers that be that in this particular instance perhaps "vest" should be reinserted, seeing as that's kind of the topic and all.

Technology is a wonderful thing...until it mucks everything up.

I tried to right a guy's name (shortened version of Richard) and it zapped me too!

Do you mean that one cannot use anatomically correct terms when

blogging at this site?  Keep us posted on this . . .

Journal Interactive is probably using an automated software system that removes certain words. It sounds like they have it set at the highest screening level but they should be able to modify the settings.

I got an email from TPTB, saying that they have tweaked the language restrictions.

I wonder what they would think about the undertaker who took a class in the latest techniques because he wanted to keep abreast?

Hey I've been censored too. But it's not by the NOW people. Ms. Cindy Kilkenny does an interesting job of keeping opposing viewpoints from being read by simply deleting what she doesn't agree with. That's really quite sad. So if you don't see my comments on her blog anymore it's not that I don't want to say anything, it's just that she doesn't like opposing points of view very much. Especially mine.

Here are the last 2 posts she deemed so horrible they needed to be shielded from her blog readers eyes.

Here is the horrible comment Cindy censored out from her blog entry titled “Tonight’s meetings at City Hall” from September 4th.

Cindy said....

"Alderman Berg has been offered his own blog repeatedly, but always declines.

SOTB, no one is making you read. If you don't like it, don't come back. I really can't explain it any more simply."

I responded with…

I see your starting this again Cindy (attacking the posters instead of the posters message and telling them to get lost ). Here is what you could quite simply do. Start a private blog not intended to be read by the general public. That way you will not get any opposing viewpoints as comments on your blog. If all you want is a big alter to preach from to your loyal congregation that would be a great option. I promise I won't read or respond to your private blog. But when you send your messages out to the public  you should expect comments that annoy your viewpoints because everyone is not you.

Note…I had mentioned I would enjoy reading more comments in her blog that balance out her  views and that I would enjoy seeing what someone like Scott Berg would have to say.

Here is another offensive and horrible comment banned by  Cindy relating to her blog entry  titled “Here’s a hot topic” on September 5th.

I wrote the following.

The air conditioning issue is not a one week thing. May, June, September and even October can all have heat waves. If you want to make your kids tough as nails you can achieve that at home. If your kid is soft maybe the parent needs to look at themself. Not everyone in the school is a kid who needs dehydration therapy. Roast your kid at home if you like. Your neighbors kid with medical problems would probably like the air conditioning. Spread out over a 30 or 40 year useful life should make installing air conditioning in a school rather inexpensive.

Cindy and her friends don’t like people who are not living in the Brookfield borders to comment (look out wannabe)  She really does not like to deal with opposing viewpoints. So I guess she feels the best way to make those commentators go away is to harass them and to delete their comments.  In my view that is kind of sad when a person is like that.

Of course one should read the whole blog entry to  fully understand what this is all about but then again with Cindy's delete technique how can one ever know they are getting the whole story.

Maybe those rumors about her not working well with others during the last election have a bit of truth to them ?

I think this is kind of on topic ?

South of the Border -- Comments relating to Ms. Kilkenny and the postings on her blog should be made on her blog, not mine.  Although you are obviously frustrated that your comments are not being published,  Ms. Kilkenny has the option to approve or disapprove any of the comments made on Brookfield City News.  My blog was not about condemning all censorship in any form.  Rather, it was a blog about my surprise that the word "breast" was deleted from a blog about breast cancer concerns.

Sorry....I was not aware that bloggers had the right to decide what comments they felt like posting. I thought the NOW people expected all comments to be posted unless offensive. Have a nice day.

No concrete guidelines were given to us regarding the decision to publish or not publish comments on our blogs.  However, the administrators of the blogs counseled us that we should approve pretty much all of the comments made-- good and bad.  However, the ultimate decision on whether a comment is published remains with the blogger.
