A SIMPLY DIFFERENT COMMUNITY.

I don't know where the term “walkable community” came from and I'm not too sure as to its grammatical appropriateness.

I felt that there was something dumb about it, perhaps somewhat eccentric. But it seemed to have some appeal and some cultural essence. There seems to be a bit of comfort and security in its sense, a community where one could feel comfortable walking. And as long as it has had a hint of community, it became good enough for me.

If we could only build on that. But how to do it? Then came the snow and the loss of walkability. Obviously, we have to make sure that our community not only finds a way to remove the snow from the sidewalks, but also removes the piles along the street that prohibit access to the sidewalks and especially at the street corners. This snow needs to be carried away.

Having gone this far, now let's encourage the people on these streets, walking on sidewalks to be friendly toward each other and feel good about themselves. Let's encourage friendly salutations. Let's celebrate our friendliness and at least say "hello."

Where we can sit out on the sidewalk areas, let's sit there and celebrate life. Let's do it under umbrellas and under canopies. Let's encourage the sharing of what we have here and let's give support to these beginnings of social interaction, these beginnings of community.

We might together even find ways of making this all work for us in gaining solar energy. Let's make the “walkable community” work for us. Let's promote it and let's use it to promote Shorewood, Shorewood an unique and simply different community.
