LANDSCAPE SOLUTIONS Join the Germantown Recreation Department for a workshop on ways to dress up your yard or putting in a new landscape. This workshops will cover vegetable and flower gardening, different types of soil and mulches, pruning techniques, how proper gardening can reduce maintenance by 75% and general lawn and plant maintenance. Class will be taught by Russell Wendland, Landscape Architect of Wendland Nursery. The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 12th from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Wendland Nursery. The cost for residents is $10/person, and for Non-residents & School Dist. Residents $15.00. Register by Friday, Apr. 27th.
GPS BASICS Interested in purchasing a Global Positioning System (GPS) but don't know where to start? Or, do you own a GPS unit but not sure how to operate it? This evening workshop will discuss the different models of GPS units on the market, their features and pricing. Additional mapping software will also be presented. Hands-on experience will include how to mark and find way points, reading a compass and altimeter, operating the trip computer, plus much more. Bring your GPS unit if you have one. Class will be on Thursdays, May 3 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Germantown Community Library. The fee is $9/Resident, $14/Non-Resident & School Dist. Res.
GEOCACHING Geocaching, a global game of treasure hunting using latitude and longitude coordinates, is a fun filled adventure for all ages. With a GPS receiver and internet access, you are ready to explore and hunt for a "geocache." Learn the basics necessary to enjoy this eco-friendly sport including suggested equipment, GPS units, the website, types of caches, how to search for caches and travel bugs. The group will put their skills to the test after the presentation by finding geocaches in nearby parks. Participants must provide their own transportation. Program is for Adults & Families, (children grades 1 & up). Children must be accompanied by an adult. If you own a GPS unit, please bring it with you to the presentation. The program is on Thursday, May 10h from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Germantown Community Library. The fee is $10/Resident, $15/Non-res. & School Dist. Res.

The Germantown Youth Futures Activities Committee will be holding the 13th Annual Lock-in at the Germantown High School for the Germantown School District grades 6-8 on Friday May 11, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.. Many Parent Chaperones are needed for the event there are 2 shifts to chose from which are 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. or 8:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Chaperones must be 18 years of age. We are looking for 25 chaperones per shift, we hope that parents and community and business leaders will be willing to invest a small amount of time in the youth of our community. If you would like to volunteer, please call Patti at the Germantown Recreation Department at 250-4710. Your contributions are greatly needed and appreciated!!!

Introduce the basic FUNdamentals of flag football, with the Germantown Recreation Departments new program Little Gridders for boys ages 4-6. Children must be 4 by the start of the program and must be in kindergarten or below. Practice and games will last 1 hour and 15 mins. each Saturday. Children will use nerf footballs on a 50 yard field. No helmets are needed! All teams will use the same formation in plays. The program will run on Saturdays, April 21 - June 9 at Friedenfeld Park. The fee is $20/residents and $30/non-residents and school district residents. Volunteer coaches are needed.
