Germantown Poms Kickathon

By Park & Recreation Department
Tuesday, Sep 23 2008, 03:10 PM

The Germantown Recreation Department Power Poms, Pixie Poms and Pixie Dust were joined by the Germantown High School Warchix and the B'Dazzle Dance & Allstar groups from Brookfield in their Kickathon in support of the Badgerette "Kicking For A Cure" campaign/Komen Race For the Cure campaigns. The Germantown Rec teams also raised funds for Children's Hospital Cancer Wing in support of Power alum Jennifer Graham's older sister Kimberly a recent GHS grad who is currently battling cancer. Kimberly attended the event to cheer the teams on.

This is the 3rd year that the groups hosted the event in which the girls took the field and kicked for three minutes straight. Each participant either earned sponsors for each kick executed or blanket donations. This was followed by each participating team presenting a routine for the audience.

The grand total for our recreation department teams is not in yet, but we currently stand at over $2800 for the cause.

Have you ever watched a tv show and thought, "I can do that"?

Well, here is your chance to prove it.  The Germantown Recreation Department is offering a local version of The Amazing Race.  This is a new program for both youth (ages 5+) and adults to participate in.  Teams of adults and children will have to think and act quickly as they read clues and perform fun tasks while exploring the different areas of Germantown.  We may not be crossing continents or taking weeks on this adventure, but the race will be overflowing with fun for the whole family!  Register early to make sure your team can compete in this family friendly edition of The Amazing Race.  Registration fee includes team shirts (shirts are not guaranteed for late registrations - after Friday, September 26th).  Clues will be throughout the village and teams are responsible for their own transportation.  This is a one day event held on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  The race begins at Kinderberg Park before leading you around the village.  All this fun and excitement can be yours for $8 per person if you are residents and $12 per person if you are non-residents or school district residents.  Only the first 20 teams will be able to participate so register NOW!!!
