As Cindy Kilkenny has pointed out, CFSW is not a charity, and should not be advertised as such. CFSW is a 501(c)4, which makes it a PAC.

CFSW is not a political action committee. It is a 501c4, tax-exempt, non-profit organization. No funds from this organization have ever been given to political candidates in any election. The organization has never supported candidates in any election and it frequently works with both republican and decmocratic legislators from across the state.

The legal definition of CFSW as filed on the articles of incorporation and IRS determination as a non-profit is:

“Citizens for a Safe Wisconsin, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers and dedicated to improving social welfare in the State of Wisconsin by advocating for tougher sex offender laws and management programs in an effort to better Wisconsin’s citizens.”

This is public information.

To avoid further confusion, CFSW has asked Janet to change her wording from "charity" to "non-profit".

Janet Evans

My volunteering at this event will be my first association/contact with the organization CFSW. I'm looking forward to helping out. My use of the word "charity" was my own. It didn't occur to me I had to play with words....it wasn't an intentional misuse.

A couple people I have recently met who are involved with CFSW are good people who care about children. I know the time they volunteer to this organization is charitable.

So, I'm happy to change the word to non-profit for tax purposes.

My heart is doing this for charity.
