No Food For You!

By Janet Evans
Wednesday, Feb 6 2008, 07:43 AM

Rep. John Read, R-Mississippi

It's difficult enough to get bars and their employees to follow the law and know when to stop serving intoxicated customers.

We know the sad reality of that all too well.

Imagine this.

Imagine if you are overweight.

On the upper end of that BMI scale.

You go into a restaurant.

The server comes to the table and looks you over....

and says "No food for you!"

Well, that just might be possible in Mississipi...the "fattest state in the nation."

That is, if Republican Rep. John Read has his way....

Mississippi Considers Restaurant Ban for Obese    É  here

Boy, oh, boy...

Now that would be a hard one to enforce.

What....do you have booths with built-in scales?

Is obesity in the eye of the beholder?

I know there is a problem in our country, but are we capable of policing each other in regards to weight?

I know insurance costs have risen because of the health related issues for obesity.

But, it is not illegal to be huge.

And isn't it bad enough having an overweight doctor telling a patient they are fat?

Now they want a waitress to tell you?

How about this...

Look in a mirror.

Check the size tag on your clothes.

Those two things will tell you right there.

Each person has to make up their own mind whether they will or will not lose weight.

You Want Me To Lose Weight?...Pay Me!

By Janet Evans
Sunday, Jan 27 2008, 08:05 AM

There’s no denying that we have an obesity problem in our country.

We love to eat.

The purpose of eating is to supply your body with enough energy to perform its functions.

But we eat for many reasons other than that....

Boredom.

Satisfaction.

Excitement.

Entertainment.

Taste.

Because it's there....

Some of us are lucky and don't put on pounds.

Some of us are diligent and exercise as you are "supposed" to do.

Others of us put on the pounds and become obese and a statistic.

Some of us try diets.

All types of diets.

Most of those diets fail.

What if....

What if you were offered an incentive?

What if our government offered to PAY YOU TO LOSE WEIGHT?

Would that make a difference?

Would that be enough incentive for you to finally do something about your weight?

That's just what England is going to do for their citizens!

Obese and overweight adults in England are going to be offered to be paid to lose weight under government plans being considered.

Britain is striving to be the first nation to reverse the obesity rate.  Within the next 12 years they also want to reduce the rate of obese children back to the rates they were in the year 2000.

Their plan for adults is to offer them money and gifts and other incentives for losing weight.

Here are their key plans:

• Individual and company incentives to encourage a healthier lifestyle with payments, vouchers for leisure centers under consideration.

• New target to reduce childhood obesity to the levels of 2000. The present rate is 30 per cent and rising each year.

• Compulsory cooking lessons in secondary schools by 2011 and healthy packed lunch policies in all schools.

• A $75 million marketing campaign to inform parents of the importance of a healthy diet and physical activity.

• $140 million to improve cycling facilities for children in areas where childhood obesity is a particular problem.

• The NHS Choices website to develop personalized advice services on diet and activity.

• More NHS weight management programs to be commissioned.

• Promotion to make breastfeeding the norm with a national helpline and a code of practice for employers.

• Development of a single food labeling system to be used by all supermarkets.

• $30m for healthy towns projects where walking, cycling, parks and use of stairs instead of lifts is incorporated into buildings and the environment.

Would YOU be encouraged to lose weight if YOU were given incentives by our government?

Would YOU participate?

Is this a good idea, particularly regarding children?

Death Is Not Skin Deep

Killing Embryos Is Unnecessary

Those who advocate publicly funded embryonic stem cell research have been saying all along that it is a matter between sickness and health or life and death.

If you opposed  this type of research, no matter for what grounds, whether it be for moral reasons, financial reasons, or even practical reasons, you were thought of as being heartless.

Now, everything has changed in a heartbeat since teams of scientists from Japan and our state of Wisconsin revealed they can replicate embryonic stem cells without creating and killing human embryos.

Instead, the researchers used ADULT SKIN CELLS.

Just think what this means, in so many ways!

Scientifically, medically, POLITICALLY!

This changes EVERYTHING!

Read the article here from the Washington Post

"To date, adult stem cell research has produced about 70 treatments while embryonic research has yet to produce even one treatment, or even a human trial. "

"This week's announcement is a major breakthrough because it opens the gates to the vaunted potential of embryonic cells in a manner a Harvard researcher described as "ethically uncomplicated."
Six years ago, President Bush made the decision to open, for the first time, the laboratory doors to federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research. He determined, however, that federal funds should not be used to encourage or support the destruction of living human embryos, a principle that has been part of federal law since 1996. Funds would be made available for research derived from embryos that had already been destroyed. He placed no limits on private funding of research. The president's policy is working Federal funding for embryonic stem cell research has grown from zero dollars in 2001 to over $24.8 million now, with no cap on future funding. Most of the established U.S. scientists in this field have received funding, and shipments of stem-cell lines are going out to researchers in record numbers. More  lines are available in the USA than in any other country.

 ------------------------------------------------

What say you now, liberals?

Embryonic stem cell research NO LONGER NEEDED?

The ethical form of research is WORKING!

From SKIN CELLS!

Why ..... maybe I'm not even going to become "unglued" today....Oh, wait.... I'm sure there will still be liberals thumbing  their noses at the Bush administration for refusing to fund embryonic-stem-cell research on moral grounds.  And that, will make me "unglued."

So, what do you think?

Save the Planet .... Abort Your Child....

By Janet Evans

Meet the women who won't have babies -
because they're not eco friendly

“Had Toni Vernelli gone ahead with her pregnancy ten years ago, she would know at first hand what it is like to cradle her own baby, to have a pair of innocent eyes gazing up at her with unconditional love, to feel a little hand slipping into hers - and a voice calling her Mummy. But the very thought makes her shudder with horror. Because when Toni terminated her pregnancy, she did so in the firm belief she was helping to save the planet.”

Read the full story here from the       Daily Mail    ◄

Quotes from another Enviro-nutcase in the article, Sara Irving:

"I realised then that a baby would pollute the planet - and that never having a child was the most environmentally friendly thing I could do."

What I consider mad are those women who ferry their children short distances in gas-guzzling cars."

_______________________________________________

What is WRONG with these women?

Aborting your baby to save the planet?  Right ....

You made a big difference, didn't you, Toni?

Maybe your baby would have been the next great scientist.

Fine if you don't want to have any more children in the future.

It's probably better for the world that YOU are not a parent in the first place.

I have heard of many reasons to abort a child, but this one really has me "Unglued."

"When I tell people why I don't want children, they look at me as if I was planning to commit murder. "

You Toni are either fooling yourself, or you are a selfish freak of the environment you want to protect . . . .

A baby is not a disposable item for the environment . . . .

Alright ...  so go back up and read the article if you didn't.

Then, let's get ready for the DEBATE.

I know there will be one.

 WHAT DO YOU THINK???????????

Don't Flush Old Meds ... Get a Cat ...

By Janet Evans
Wednesday, Nov 14 2007, 06:45 AM

Discard Outdated or Unused Medications with Cat Litter

That's right ... the government is going to suggest that patients who use

addictive pain killers and prescriptions dispose of them in cat litter rather

than flush them or throw them away in the garbage, where someone may

sort through your garbage and obtain them.  They are also worried about

people who visit your house, relatives and friends, and might take old

drugs and "misuse" them.

What's that?

Don't have a cat?

Well, it's suggested you try mixing them with coffee grounds, saw dust, or, get this,

“dog poop."  That's right.  Anything to make them "yucky" so someone

who may want  to misuse them won't want to take them.

Sorry ... I just had a flashback of the " Cheech and Chong movie "Up in Smoke" when the guys are sitting in the car both sharing a large joint (which Chong's character says is made with "labrador," marijuana and dog [poop], due to his dog having eaten his stash)."  Anyway ...

Besides that, they're finding too many antibiotics, hormones, etc. in our

waterways which potentially can cause health problems and (I'll say it) environmental problems, such as fish abnormalities.

Here are some tips from the FEDS on disposal of leftover meds
:

• Don't flush unused drugs down the toilet, unless they're one of a handful that expressly advises that on the prescription label.

• Crush or dissolve leftover medicine in a little water. Then mix with a yucky substance - kitty litter, coffee grounds, even dog waste - in a sealed plastic bag or other unmarked container, and put in the trash. That renders the drug unpalatable if a child, animal or drug abuser rummages through the trash.

• Remove and destroy the prescription label and any other personal identifying information from the original drug container before throwing it away.

• An alternative is to call pharmacies or local environmental or hazardous waste collection sites, to see if they run drug "take-back" programs.

• Some medicines should never be left over. Antibiotics in particular come in the exact quantity you're supposed to take. Stop before they're gone and your infection can return, possibly in a harder-to-treat form.

Sources: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

So, that’s the “poop” on the new government recommendations.

What do you think?

Will you be buying some cat litter?

Saving dog poop?

Maybe I’ll just make sure I do what the bottle says

and be sure I finish all of the drug as directed.

"Unglued?”

Me?  Just about the dog poop ...
