Maple & Main

Curt is Chicago native – but don’t hold that against him. After stops in Madison and California, he and his wife moved to Waukesha in 2004 to open their own downtown business.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

On Main Street, just a little east of Barstow, sat a little old house with historic charm.

All right, so the historic charm had been lacking over the past few years do to occasional break-ins, small fires, and local homeless taking up residence inside. But that’s what gives a place personality.

Anyhow, the building was razed last week to make way for something new.

A new storefront?

A new parking lot?

A new restaurant?

Nah, downtown Waukesha doesn’t need any of those things.

It needs more apartments! I think that’s what I heard everyone saying at the recent downtown meetings- we need more apartments.

Perfect.

In all fairness to those involved, this deal was put together a while back- long before the apartment debate came to light. Also, its not like the building was doing any favors for the downtown. It was abandoned and lifeless.

And the apartments at “The Landing”, located at East Main and Whiterock, just took the proactive step of converting to condos to promote more downtown property ownership.

So, all in all, I guess it’s better than it was.
