Paul's Falls

I have lived in the Falls since 1968. My great-great grandfather was one of the village founders. I have served the community in multiple ways: Firefighter, various boards and commissions and for many years was president of the Falls Cable Access Corp. Currently I own, and am active in, a restaurant equipment manufacturing company.

Conservatives and War

 As I grow older it becomes more and more puzzling to me.  Why can't there be a conservative candidate who isn't drooling for war?  President Bush has spent most of his two terms in office minding other people's business than he has taking care of our own. And now his sights appear to be set on Iran as the next target.

The was has been very costly in terms of dollars and lives.  What a waste! Pouring our tax dollars away into a hopeless war that can never be won seems to be the height of folly. And, as it continues the value of our dollar shrinks more and more in the world market.

Republican presidential candidates are hammering away at the anticipated frivolous spending proposed by the Democrats. And yet when Republicans are in power the spending doesn't slow, in fact it increases at an even faster pace.

I'm looking for a conservative candidate who will really reduce federal spending.  Any suggestions?

I am puzzled by how you can seemingly call this a Republican war.  Like it or not, the UNITED STATES is at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, not the Republican Party, as you suggest.

Unabashed Conservative   

Your statement that conservatives are "drooling" for war is simply false.  You seem to forget that virtually all of the leading Democrats agreed with the decision to invade Iraq (not to mention many of our allies).  And the war now is a battle with Al Qaeda.  The terrorists are desparate that democracy does not take hold in Iraq.  Better to fight them over there than here in the US.  It is far from a hopeless war; in fact, the recent troop surge is showing signs of significant progress.

As for Iran, their leader has openly stated he wants to wipe Isreal off the face of the globe.  Once they become nuclear, do you really want to take the chance that they won't follow through on that statement?  Iran is known to be supporting the terrorists in Iraq.  Do you want to take the chance they will pass on their nuclear weapons to terrorists?
