Don't cut the emissions program, get rid of it

A major change will take place this summer in Wisconsin’s emission testing program in southeastern Wisconsin.

Beginning July 1, cars and trucks built before 1996 will be exempt from having to go through that silly test. The emissions program costs the state over $13 million each year.

One year ago this time, I called for a stop to the entire program.

Dad29 and No Runny Eggs share my opinion.

I could not agree more.

The emissions test violates our Constitutional rights.

If you get pulled over by the Police, they are not allowed to search your vehicle without a search warrant or probable cause. So why do we allow people (Enviro-Test) not only to search, but to confiscate our vehicles against our will?

This is the insightful kind of comment I appreciate on my blog.

This is an invasion of privacy. To plug a reader into our cars computer to see if our car is running illegally is wrong.  What’s next the government is going to come and plug a reader into our laptops to see if we are doing illegal activity on them? You laugh at that but ask yourself is it really that much different.  Liberals, like the ones in favor of this agency, always are willing to violate constitutional rights if it is perceived as the right intention to do something better overall when in reality it is wrong to do in the first place because of the protection of our right.

Also, what a waste of 13 million dollars.  It wastes our money and does little to nothing in protecting the environment.

I agree with you Kevin, the emissions test program should be scrapped.  What is the point of testing cars if you are not going to test the older cars, which are the most likely violators?

Tara, your view makes a whole heck of a lot of common sense.

The key is, you don't have to allow them into your vehicle to plug anything in. I will tell you that I will not be easy and you have to be willing to stand your ground but I will tell you that I have done it. Be ready to hold the Constitution in your hand and have the 4th, 5th & 14th Amendments highlighted but just like the Police officer who does not have the right to search your vehicle without a search warrant, you do not have to turn over your private property to the government or a government agency without your permission.
