Yes, I know, there was a Franklin School Board meeting tonight

I did not attend the annual Franklin School Board charade tonight. Other Franklin bloggers did, I’m sure, and I trust they’ll have commendable reviews of what transpired later.
Why didn’t I attend as I did last August? I’ll tell you, in this order:
1) I don’t trust the Franklin School Board.
Last August, the Board placed index cards in the hands of Franklin pawns, Franklin residents, some of whom had no idea what they were reading, but did so anyway when it was time to make a motion to approve spending increases.
Last August, the Franklin School Board told a crowded room, most of them plants, that they had no choice because the state budget had not been approved and they had no idea how much state aid was coming that they had to increase the school tax levy by 5.6%.
The audience was also told that could change by the time the board set the final budget in October. On Halloween, the scary school board upped the tax levy increase to 5.9%. Later, after some of my digging, we found out that even though the board was told they were voting on a 5.9% increase, they actually approved an 11.7% increase, more than double the increase approved at the “charade” in August.
I’m sorry. I won’t waste an evening being lied to and played like a fiddle by people who put plants in the audience to act like orchestrated robots, reading prepared motions.
2) Their minds are made up.
Wake up, Franklin. They don’t care how many of you show up or what you have to say. They know what they’re going to do tonight, and they know what they’re going to do in October, and if necessary, they know what they’re going to do and say after October.
When has this board or administration shown any indication, no matter how slight it is, that they are going to act with fiscal responsibility?
3) I refuse to be insulted.
That’s what the board does at this “charade.” They pontificate as though they’re acting in the best interest of the taxpayers when in reality their bosses are home, or on vacation, not politically engaged, and unaware that they’re being taken to the cleaners. I’d rather stay home and see what the hateful left is inventing to say about me.
4) My lovely wife and I can share quality time. That beats being frustrated by the “Gang that couldn’t shoot straight.”
5) The Brewers are on TV.
By the way, and I mean this sincerely, read what I consider to be the best blog Bryan Maersch has ever written. He truly captures the folly of the “annual dog and pony show.”
